Dont convert your E30 M3 to RHD. There are many reasons for this which include steering racks, brake servos and the general bastardisation of a cult classic. Most importantly, the value of these cars lies in their origionality - they were never builty in RHD. They are best left alone. The LHD thing make them even more special here in NZ. It partnered with BMW Motorsport and Alpina to develop a uniquely South African E30 edition, called the 333i. It took the M30 engine from the 733i and shoehorned it into the engine bay of the small and light 3 Series, instantly creating one very hot compact sedan. It’s not clear exactly how many were built, but only around 200 were sold to Whereas the E30 M3 had used BMW’s potent but somewhat unrefined inline four cylinder motor, the subsequent E36 and E46 M3s both ran straight six engines that were renowned for their smooth-running nature.
The E30 M3 came with a 2.3-liter dual overhead cam four-cylinder engine that made 197 horsepower (which dropped to 192 horsepower when equipped with a catalytic converter). The head was based on the engine from the M1 sports car.
That’s new AMG GT money for an old BMW coupe. This European-market BMW E30-generation 323i has only driven 160 miles since it rolled off the factory line in 1985. Now you can own it… for roughly the price of a brand new Porsche 911 Carrera S. Throughout its life cycle, around 17,000 E30 M3s were built, of that about 5,300 were sent to America, with a mere 185 ever reaching Canada. The E36 changed the game.
The E30 M3 marked time for its final year, accumulating total sales of 5115 in America and just over 17,000 worldwide. While there may be a handful of American 1991 M3s titled as 1992 models, rest assured they were indeed made in 1991 and simply sat in dealer inventory long enough to require the nominal year change. The M3 and M4 models based on the F30 3 Series were introduced in 2014. Designated F80 for the M3 (sedan) and F82 for the M4 (coupe), this is the first time an M3 has used a separate model code, and the first time an M coupe was designated M4. It is powered by the S55 twin-scroll-turbocharged straight-six engine. Production of the M3 ended in 2020. Below is the BMW E30 production data for all models, including the M3.
