The entry-level 148bhp 318d diesel is the only model in the range offered with a manual gearbox and can average a very respectable 65.7mpg. Other diesel options include the 187bhp 320d and 282bhp
PS: buying the lower power cars is not all about badge either. My 320d still had the same build quality, cabin materials, and overall niceness of the bigger-engined siblings, so you're still getting the full BMW experience even if you don't have M3-like performance.
